China Responds to Accident at Under-Construction High-Speed ​​Rail Project in Thailand

According to Thai media reports on March 14, the death toll from the accident at the under-construction high-speed rail project in Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand, has risen to 22, with 55 others injured. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ regular press conference on March 14, a reporter asked about China’s response to the accident, noting that the high-speed rail project aims to connect China and Thailand, and that China is reportedly one of the partners in the project. The reporter inquired whether China had any further information.

In response, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated, “We have noted the reports regarding the accident and express our condolences for the casualties. The Chinese government attaches great importance to the safety of the project and its personnel, and we are currently investigating the situation. At present, the relevant section is being constructed by a Thai company, and the cause of the accident is still under investigation.”
